The term NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. 

NVQs are devised in accordance with sector standards for occupational relevance and approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) who ensure that a modern, effective training agenda is operated in England.  This organisation regulates the awarding bodies which certificate NVQs.
